on the drive

i was sitting on the drive feeling that i was barely alive
drinking cup after cup believing i was not good enough
when a thought passed me by that i might learn courage from
what good people have done by what they’ve overcome

there’s no one like you who can do what you can do
just like stars in the sky we shine our own light

i’ve been watching for a while some people got real style
though they see not with their eyes neither are they blind
and yes i’ve been listening and i know there’s been lying
when they say you’re not good enough
for the colour of your skin for the texture of your skin

and i’ve seen some eat bitter fruit even fall sick
and though the mountain looms so big
they still go climbing it
and some have a vision feels positive
though they could be hurt by critics
they keep their eyes on it they keep their eyes on this . . .

there’s no one like you who can do what you can do
just like stars in the sky we shine our own light

now i’ve been thinking a long long time seems it must be true
if we don’t believe in ourselves what more can we lose?
for no one in the world can bring the songs that you can sing
though we all can sing along you must write your own song
you must sing your own song you must sing your own song

for there’s no one like you who can do what you can do
just like stars in the sky we shine our own light
